And when I breathed my breath was lightning

What to expect in a session
1:1 Session
During a 1:1 session I will always start by taking a brief health history and checking in to see if there are any areas you would like to focus on either physically or emotionally during your session. Some have a sense of what they’d like to work on or come with an intention for the session; a pain or discomfort or an area of their life - a relationship, their work or purpose in life.
I will talk you through the technique and discuss any questions or queries that are on your mind. I will also check your normal day-to-day breathing pattern. Are you naturally an abdominal or chest breather? Where does your breath not go and where do you need to expand into? I can then decide whether you would get more from the session by lying flat or with the head and upper body semi-elevated during the session.
Most people will begin lying on their backs, head supported by a pillow, on a yoga mat with their eyes closed. I will then take you through a short practice breath to iron out any further changes to posture or questions that might arise.
Once the breathe begins it is set to gentle music and you will be breathing for 40-60 minutes. I will guide you with affirmations and body mapping or gentle acupressure to help you get the most out of the technique. But most of the time I will be guiding by providing a safe space or container for you to fully relax into the session.
The session will end with a period of relaxation, and then a share, if you wish, or time to answer any questions before we finish.
A 1:1 facilitated session is the best way to learn about your own restricted breathing patterns, and how to let them go. Some people also like the constant guidance and support they receive in a 1:1 session. The feeling of safety they experience helps them dive deeper.
Online 1:1
Online 1:1 sessions follow a similar format to an in-person 1:1, but I will use my voice to guide you through the breathe with gentle cues if needed and affirmations. I will also need to check your position before we start to make sure you are seated or lying in the best possible position to facilitate your breathe.
We will also have a technical check-in at the beginning to make sure we can both hear each other, as well as the music. Some people prefer an online session for the convenience of being able to have a session no matter where they are, but also because they feel safest in their own space at home.
Others may choose to start with a series of 1:1’s and then follow up with online breathes, once a month, or every few months.
Small Group Workshops
Some people enjoy the extra dynamism and energy of a group breathe. In a small group, I am able to facilitate and support each person’s breathe with music, acupressure and affirmations.
Some people like to come for a group workshop as a couple or as a small group of friends to learn and share the experience together.
Larger Group Workshops
Larger groups are facilitated by me plus an assistant. As well as being in a bigger setting we tend to breathe for longer - so the intensity of being in a group, as well as the extra energy of a larger and longer session, can be very dynamic and cathartic.
Events
Longer weekend and day retreats can also be great opportunities to practice the technique in a beautiful and relaxed setting with time to share and hold space for your breathwork experience without rushing straight back into your day-to-day life.
